Enemy of the Welfare State

Over at PhilanthropyDaily.com, I have a tribute to Bob Cote, an outstanding faith-based charity entrepreneur who recently died.

Cote loathed the impersonal, counterproductive welfare state that was the opposite of the kind of real charity Cote provided in his work with the homeless on Denver’s Skid Row.

A former Golden Gloves boxer, Cote was one tough hombre, and he loved to tell the story of when he testified before Congress and sent Rep. Joe Kennedy running from the room.
