Breaking: the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports:

Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. — the controversial, Stetson-wearing official who rose to national prominence with his no-holds-barred conservative rhetoric — resigned his office Thursday.

Clarke, who is in his fourth term, submitted a resignation letter to Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson on Thursday.

“After almost forty years serving the great people of Milwaukee County, I have chosen to retire to pursue other opportunities,” Clarke said in a statement. […]

Politico reported Thursday that Clarke is expected to take a job in President Donald Trump’s administration. But sources close to the sheriff disputed that, saying Clarke is looking at opportunities outside of government that support the Trump agenda and keep Clarke in the public eye.

Earlier this year, he was passed over for a job in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Clarke, a frequent surrogate for Trump during his successful 2016 campaign, also interviewed last year for a job in Trump’s cabinet. On Sunday, Trump tweeted favorable remarks about Clarke’s memoir.

Here is the president’s tweet:

Clarke’s book, published by Worthy Publishing at the end of February, is titled, Cop Under Fire: Moving Beyond Hashtags of Race, Crime and Politics for a Better America.

Just wait till the Left gets wind of this.

It’s going to be fun!

Sheriff David Clarke might would be funny if he were not so pathetic.
I don’t know whether to laugh at him or cry with him. This is a man who
can’t solve how prisoners died in his jail, yet, he feels he can help to solve
the lawless problems in this country. Charity begins at home, he should have
started with his jail first and foremost. Milwaukee Jail first…then America!
