For the first time that I can recall, I’m sorry I eschew awards shows.
Last night at the Grammys, singer-songwriter Joy Villa wore a red, white and blue dress that had “Make America Great Again” on the front and “TRUMP” on the back hem.
It’s not clear whether Villa is a Trump supporter or if she is just trying to get attention. Either way, more power to her! After all of the self-righteous liberal moralizing from Hollywood these past few weeks, it is a relief to see someone shove it right back in their faces. (Editor’s note: Villa has received death threats over the dress, Breitbart News reports.)
Villa said her dress was about love, but, according to the Los Angeles Times, the Internet wasn’t buying it. But music fans were. “The 25-year-old’s EP “I Make the Static” jumped to the top of Amazon’s top digital paid albums and reached number seven on the iTunes top album chart after her red carpet appearance,” according to FoxNews.
Fox News’ Todd Starnes said, “Wearing a Donald Trump dress at the Grammys? That’s like showing up at a PETA protest eating a cheeseburger!”
Given how left-wing the entertainment industry is, Villa was betting that the way to stand out now is to make a conservative statement. And, happily, it paid off.
Here’s hoping more celebrities “eat cheeseburgers.”
